Meredith Sobel, Founder and Director
Sobel Wellness was founded by Meredith Sobel, MS (Harvard), BA (Columbia) an Integrative Health and Wellness Coach certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York, NY.
Meredith has been interested in health and medicine since her father passed away in 1989 from a massive heart attack with no warning. She completed the pre-medical program and received her undergraduate degree in religion and biology from Columbia University's Barnard College in New York City. After graduation, disillusioned with the idea of attending medical school, and convinced that cutting edge medical technology could help prevent heart attacks, Meredith decided to explore the business aspects of developing medical technologies at the well known consulting firm, Accenture and later further developed business and finance skills at Bloomberg, LP. While working at Accenture, she explored a side passion of cooking professionally as a prep cook and assistant pastry chef at Tocqueville, a well-known boutique restaurant in Union Square. Fed up with the corporate world and suffering from a host of digestive distresses, Meredith left Bloomberg to study health interventions more formally at the Harvard School of Public Health and focused on finding alternative solutions to her own health problems for which modern medicine could not provide relief. In addition to her academic and personal healing pursuits, Meredith discovered rowing and became a member of the Harvard Business School Rowing Club. After completing a Master of Science in Health Economics and losing nearly forty pounds through a permanent reinvention of her way of eating and living, Meredith returned to New York to work at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Meredith's work at NYP gave her experience with different patient populations such as those with diabetes, cardiac conditions, cancer and suffering from side effects of morbid obesity. During that time, Meredith became increasingly aware of the importance of prevention and the ability people have to control their own health state. Meredith left NYP to put her personal interests in diet realignment, her public health background, culinary talent and business skills to better use -- to form Sobel Wellness, to fulfill her dream to help individuals make healthy food a priority, be able to cook healthier and more delicious meals, as well as find more balance in their lives.
Never having run more than one mile before the spring of 2006, Meredith trained for and completed the Westchester Olympic Distance Triathlon in September of 2006 and is actively training for the nine required road runners races in New York City to qualify for the 2009 NYC Marathon in which she plans to compete. She has completed five half marathons and four 100 mile bike rides since 2006. She continues to enjoy running and biking in her spare time as well as cooking, dancing and watching movies with happy endings.
